MiSight 1 day, developed by CooperVision, is the first and only soft contact lens to receive FDA approval specifically for slowing the progression of myopia (nearsightedness) in children aged 8 to 12 at the initiation of treatment. If your child's prescription keeps getting stronger year after year, MiSight offers a clinically validated way to put the brakes on that progression — while also providing clear, comfortable daytime vision.

How MiSight Works

MiSight uses a patented ActivControl® technology featuring a dual-focus optical design. The lens has alternating zones: correction zones that provide the child's full prescription for clear central vision, and treatment zones that create peripheral myopic defocus — a signal that research indicates slows the eye's axial elongation. This approach addresses the underlying mechanism of myopia progression rather than simply compensating for it.

Clinical Evidence

The MiSight 3-year clinical trial demonstrated that children wearing MiSight experienced 59% less myopia progression on average compared to children wearing standard single-vision daily contact lenses. Axial length growth — the key measure of myopia progression — was also significantly reduced. A 6-year extension of the study confirmed the sustained benefit over long-term wear.

Why Slowing Myopia Matters

This isn't just about avoiding stronger prescriptions. Higher levels of myopia significantly increase the lifetime risk of serious eye diseases including retinal detachment, glaucoma, macular degeneration, and cataracts. Every diopter of myopia prevented is a meaningful reduction in long-term risk. Starting myopia control early — when the eyes are still developing — produces the greatest benefit.

Is MiSight Right for Your Child?

MiSight is prescribed as a daily disposable lens — worn during the day and discarded each night, with no cleaning required. It's suitable for children who are motivated and responsible enough for contact lens wear. Our doctors will evaluate your child's prescription, eye health, and readiness for lenses to determine if MiSight is the right fit. Contact us to schedule a myopia management consultation.
